The Easy Card (stylized as EASY Card) system is a series of linked contactless smartcard systems used by Miami-Dade Transit and South Florida Regional Transportation Authority in the South Florida area. The Easy Card allows for electronic payment on multiple public transport systems including Miami Metrorail, rapid transit rail system; Tri-Rail, commuter rail system; and Metrobus. Other public transportation agencies in the South Florida area which may eventually join the system include Broward County Transit as well as Palm Tran.[1]
In addition to the above, SFRTA uses their Easy Card ticket machines to print out purely paper tickets that lack any smartcard media for same-day and/or weekend usage. If a paper ticket user wishes to transfer to Metrorail, they must obtain an Easy Card or Easy Ticket at either the Tri-Rail and Metrorail transfer station or the Miami Airport station.
An Easy Card or Ticket purchased from any participating agency or at a ticket machine at any Metrorail station may be used on any participating system, provided it is loaded with the proper fare or has a sufficient balance in it.
Easy Cards and Tickets are used by scanning (\"tapping\") them at card readers built into Metrobus fareboxes, Metrorail faregates, and standalone validators on platforms at Tri-Rail stations. Metrobus users only have to tap their Easy Card or Ticket once when boarding. Metrorail users must tap their card or ticket at the faregates when they enter and leave the system. Tri-Rail users must tap their card or ticket at a validator before boarding and after exiting a train.
Implemented in August 2019, riders are able to use their Visa, Mastercard, or AMEX contactless credit/debit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Samsung Pay at the fare gates on the Metrorail. As of February 2020, contactless bank cards and digital wallets are also accepted on Metrobuses.
LIRR riders will see weekday service increase 41% system-wide when Grand Central Madison opens. The commuter railroad will add 269 trains per weekday to its current 677 for a total of 936 trains per weekday.
Sound Transit on Nov. 10 reported the final light rail vehicle to support its T Line Hilltop Tacoma Link Extension arrived in Tacoma. It is part of a $26.5 million, five-car contract that was awarded to Brookville Equipment Corporation in 2017.
If you need to get to Miami International Airport, you'll want to take the special Metrorail Orange Line. It connects to the Miami Intermodal Center transportation hub where you can take the free MIA Mover to the airport's Main Terminal.
Metrorail fares start at $2.25. Buy an EASY Ticket at any Metrorail station. (Cash payment is accepted at the ticket vending machine next to the fare gate.) Frequent commuters can purchase the $2 EASY Card at any Metrorail station or online, and reload it via the app. Another benefit of contactless payment is a daily fare cap of $5.65 on Metrorail and/or Metrobus, no matter how many times you ride. One-way passes, unlimited daily passes, weekly passes and monthly passes are also available.
If you're planning to explore Downtown Miami, Metromover is hands-down the best option. Metromover is a free public transportation service around Downtown Miami and Brickell, and serves as a connection between Metrorail and Metrobus. The Metromover has three loops: Omni Loop, Inner Loop and Brickell Loop.
Bus rides start at $2.25 per trip. As with Metrorail, the easiest way to pay for a bus ride is with an EASY Card or EASY Ticket. Travelers can purchase them online and at select stations. Figure out how to get where you're going using the Metrobus System Map, then check individual route schedules for all of the system's bus routes. Download the Go Miami-Dade Transit app for on-the-go information.
Amtrak is the largest passenger railroad service in America, offering daily intercity trains to hundreds of destinations across the contiguous United States, as well as several cities in Canada. Every Amtrak train comes equipped with comfortable seats with extra legroom, as well as several four-seat areas with tables in the middle. In addition, each car has a freshly cleaned restroom, free WiFi and power outlets at every seat. There are also snack bars where you can purchase drinks or food during your journey.
During the test runs, SFRTA engineers and conductors will be trained to operate Tri-Rail trains on the 8-mile span connecting the state-owned tracks west of I-95 to MiamiCentral. Tech systems meant to prevent over-speed derailments and train-on-train collisions will also be tested, the release stated.
The commuter rail system is envisioned as similar to Tri-Rail, which has operated on state-owned tracks west of I-95 since 1989. But it's yet not clear if Tri-Rail will operate beyond the MiamiCentral connection.
Although the commuter rail is far from certain, the inclusion of train stations are incorporated in urban plans promoted by the Wynwood Business Improvement District, Dacre in the Miami Design District, and the Magic City Innovation District in Little Haiti.
From the airport, you can take the Miami Mover to Miami Airport Station. The MIA Mover is a free shuttle train that runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. At Miami Airport Station, you can take the Metrorail (Orange Line, Miami-Dade Transit) to travel to the city centre. The metro runs between 05:00 hours and midnight, every 15 to 30 minutes in both directions. If you want to go to the centre of Miami, you either need to get off at metro station Government Center north of the Miami River or at metro station Brickell south of the Miami River. At both stations you have the option to change to the Metromover, which provides free access to all places in Downtown Miami. The total journey time from Miami Airport to the city centre is approximately 30 minutes.

Within walking distance of Metrorail Transfer Station is Amtrak Train Station. A train ride on Tri-Rail takes 50 minutes to Fort Lauderdale and 1 hour and 50 minutes to West Palm Beach. On weekdays, the train runs one to two times an hour, during the weekend and on public holidays it runs less frequently. Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach also have their own airport. Train fares from Miami Airport Station are as follows: $ 2.50 to Hialeah, $ 5.00 to Fort Lauderdale and $ 8.75 to West Palm Beach. On weekends and holidays, the standard fare is $ 5.00 for all destinations. The last mentioned destination is like Palm Beach, the island of the rich and famous, part of Palm Beach County.
